Postcards From the Pandemic
Amazon Workers International Takes on Bezos
May 1, 2020
Amazon has warehouses in India, Brazil, and the Middle East, as well as across Europe and North America. Amazon Workers International (AWI) has developed this comic, “Postcards from the Pandemic,” as part of its effort to build global solidarity—both in warehouses across borders, and among the workers from different countries who work together in warehouses in New York and Germany. Spectre editors are pleased to share this very practical piece of art with you on May Day 2020, as a sign of solidarity and expression of hope on this International Workers’ Day.
AWI has also issued an open letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, demanding paid sick leave, higher wages, breaks, good faith bargaining with unions and workers’ organizations, and secure, full-time jobs. Workers also want transparency regarding COVID-19 deaths and infections in Amazon’s workplaces, as well as free speech for workers, immediate rehiring of workers who have been fired for speaking out, and a stop to the shipping of non-essential items.
If you work at Amazon, you can also sign a petition protesting the company’s retaliation against workers. If you are an Amazon customer, you can sign this letter in solidarity with workers taking action.
